The highs 📈 and lows 📉 of small business life
📈 The highlight of Liam’s month is unquestionably the first month-long holiday he’s taken since starting Project Alfred with Amy. There have been various short holidays over the last couple of years, but there was always a decent aspect of work being done, whether due to necessity or not being able to switch off entirely. Liam says that won’t be the case this time around - and it’s only possible because of his absolute trust in Amy and the awesome team. “I feel very lucky to have such a special co-founder by my side who has the same fundamental values, work ethic and view of building our team but also someone I trust implicitly.”
📉 It is disheartening to see those given the responsibility of processing payroll for employees not giving it the attention and review it deserves. Even simple mistakes, like not understanding whether a salary amount was inclusive or exclusive of super is costing employees. It shows that despite best intentions, attention to detail can have huge ramifications for employees and the overall financial health of a business.
Tech that makes travelling a breeze
💃For businesses that need support articles, product guides or any form of instruction for their customers, we love the simplicity of using tools like Scribe or Tango, which captures your screen movements and turns them into how-to guides in minutes.
✍️There are some months when you need a bunch of electronic signatures but don’t want to pay a monthly subscription fee. That’s where we’ve found Annature to be handy.
☁️If you’re like us and have many windows open for different clients, you can organise your tabs, documents and links by project using Workona.
Productivity hack 👩💻
When you run your own business, you can’t ignore the harder tasks, but you CAN take control of your calendar. This month, our productivity hack comes from Amy. “I schedule the demanding tasks for when I’m most productive and the easier tasks for when I know I’m not. Friday afternoon, I’ll get the straightforward work done. If I hit a brick wall, I call it what it is, stop and pick it up in another ‘productive’ time allocation.”
