Finally, some decent virtual meeting tools… 🎧 🖥
Things that should be on your radar this month
1. It’s official, the caps on concessional and non-concessional super contributions are staying the same next financial year.
2. Are you thinking about introducing an equity offer at your startup? Read this for some answers to questions that you or your employees might have. (Solid tips straight from the person who designed the employee equity plans for Canva, Koala, Euc, and other Australian and international share plans.)
3. The world’s largest 4-day work week pilot is underway, but would you rather work four 10-hour days or call it quits every day at 4pm rather than 5 or 6pm?
4. In a win for the Australian tech industry, we could be seeing more video games developed here thanks to a new tax offset scheme proposed by the federal government.
5. Finfluencers (aka financial influencers) might now need to get a financial services licence to keep doling out saving advice or investment tips online.
Tech to help streamline your business (the virtual meeting edition)
Sessions – Sick of conversations getting hijacked in virtual meetings? Try this interactive agenda app that’s built to drive team engagement through features like collaborative whiteboards, polls, visual agendas and more.
Clayboard – Constantly scrambling to find the right tabs to share on a video call? Clayboard integrates with your online work tools to keep everything in one tab, letting you focus on the people that you’re meeting with.
Vowel – Reading your notes after a call and drawing blanks on what that vague dotpoint referred to? This app automatically records and transcribes every meeting, giving your scribbles some context.
The highs and lows of small business life
+ We kicked off April with a new office and our first team member, Keilah, and tell you what, nothing makes running your own business feel more real than that 🍾
– Sometimes we find it hard to follow our own advice and we *may* have ended up doing a bit of work over Easter, but we’re in Sydney at the moment for the Accounting Business Expo and catching up with some local fintechs, and we're enjoying some extra downtime while we’re over here to make up for it!
Productivity hacks
Lots of business owners claim to be nightowls, but it might be time to check if you’re actually working at your most productive times >>> spend time to save time by designing your perfect work week 🕒
The apps you use make a huge difference to how smoothly your internal and client-facing systems run, so make sure your tech stack is up to scratch. If you're curious what we use in our business, check out our current tech stack here.
Always have lots of browser tabs open? Make sure you’ve mastered these Chrome shortcuts.

With all the public holidays landing close together this month, it seems like everyone we’ve been talking to is playing catch-up at work right now. If that’s you, know you’re definitely not the only person feeling that way!
If we can give one (friendly) nudge as accountants though, it’s this: Try to keep chipping away at your bookkeeping on a weekly basis. It’s small tasks like reconciling receipts and making a digital copy of them that can quickly turn into a (psychological, but also physical) mountain when left on the end of your to-do list. EOFY will be here before you know it, so keeping your books tidy now will mean way less stress come June 30.
That's just our two pennies' worth.
